The predominant manifestation of skin lesions in acne is comedones. Oligopeptide-10, a short bioactive peptide, is an antimicrobial peptide used to treat acne disorders with broad activity against most species of organisms. It is composed of 15 natural peptides that provide amino acids with antimicrobial activity against Sores.
Oligopeptide-10 (OPE-10) is highly potent against P. uicoides and causes rapid cell death. In combination with the bacteria’s negatively charged surface elements (lipoproteins), it can be close to causing the deadly cytoplasmic membrane permeability disorder inside the bacteria. Because of this distinctive mechanical mechanism of action bacteria have a lower resistance and the probability of resistance to other antibiotics are still susceptible to oligopeptides 10. In addition, it neutralizes pro-inflammatory bacteria and reduces redness.
The peptide showed remarkable activity against independent P-acne bacteria and was found to be more potent when combined with lower levels of salicylic acid. Salicylic acid opens the pore to allow oxygen entry and allows oligopeptide-10 to enter the pore for maximum effect without irritation.
The 0.5% combination of oligopeptide 10 with 0.5% salicylic acid showed a 40% reduction in acne, irritation, pustulation and papulosis after 28 days compared to the leading benzoyl peroxide brand.
